Fishmans… many of us still cherish the memory of this band, the band which its existence is transmitted through generation to generation, as one of the most important band that created the present Japanese hybrid music scene. Yes, of their unforgettable melody, rhythm, and the lyrics…Although quite a long time past after the death of the vocalist Nobuharu Sato in 1999, never had their numerous masterpieces faded away. Without difficulty, Fishmans leapt over the borders of all sorts of genres of music such as reggae, dub, rock, funk, hip-hop, jazz, fusion, and electronic, by the keyword “魂 (soul).” They are the one and only band, which presented us the new possibilities of music. This must be the reason why there are many enthusiastic fans from general listeners to musicians, and from people who involves in all sorts of creative activities.The exhibition features original record jackets produced by sixteen progressive artists that grew up listening to and inspired by Fishmans’ music, as a tribute to this great band. This project is to remind the footprint of the legendary band that influenced the new age of Japanese music, to rethink about the existence of the band, and to transmit its value to the future.
