NANZUKA UNDERGROUND’s forthcoming exhibition is by Taku Anekawa (1970- ). For this exhibition, Anekawa took a new challenge and has chosen a combination of “drawing” and “embroidery” as his mode of expression. Entitled [Secret Allegory], this exhibition is a challenging new series of secret tales woven with threads of bizarreness and comicality, Anekawa’s favorite subjects.

After graduating from Kobe Design University graduate school in 1995, Taku Anekawa worked mainly in the media creation fields of animation and digital contents creating, and since 2002, he has pursued his original form of artwork with embroidery.

A distinct feature of his creativity is the natural eccentricity, which was spotlighted in the “Nazo No Yasai Seijin Arawaru (The Appearance of the Mysterious Vegetable Aliens)”, a hit in the children’s TV program, “Ponkickies”, in 1999. When viewing Anekawa’s works, we often find them “scary, but also comical in some way”. It has a fine balance of calculated mischievousness and naturally-formed fetishism. They seem to touch the viewer’s deep psyche slightly, and run off again.

Anekawa has composed a poem for this exhibition.

When the secret allegory is told, happiness sublimes to pain, and sorrow to ecstasy The spirits in the details soon begin their dance in the realm of the brain The story is locked within secret agony, as my allegory is shared.
